Lessons in life

For the past several weeks DeeDee, Tony, and I have been watching a "loon cam" on the internet.  It has been a lot of fun checking in on a nesting pair of loons as they sit patiently on the nest, call to each other, and trade places every couple hours.  Hopes ran high and even higher as the hatching date drew near for each of the eggs.  Those days came - and went and nothing.  No little loon chick.  The moderator and local loon expert of the accompanying loon blog explained what may be happening as each days passes.  There's been some drama, too.  Eggs have gone into the water - twice now.  Was it by accident?  We don't know, though video replay shows the first time may have been.  The moderator rushed out to replace the egg on the nest and everyone (over 5000 watchers) breathed a cautious sigh of relief.  But the days continue to drag by, and still no little chicks.  Slowly the realization comes upon us that there will be no little chicks, especially when an egg dropped into the water the second time.  

 

While these are disappointing events, they are lessons in real life nature.  And, what a great opportunity we have to take a little peek at it.
