Talking the ear off a donkey...

It's been a busy weekend for us choir-wise. Friday night the national choir was part of a great musical performance directed by Tony's conductor. We went to that concert and Mr. Executive Director ended up sitting next us. Mr. E.D. is also the prefect general which means that he ensures all the boys' behavior is of the high standard expected of them.

The hour was late, the pews were hard, the place was very full, and there was limited air circulating around. How Tony squirmed! He tried so hard to be still, but it was too hard. He tried to whisper to me a couple times, but I kept him quiet.

Yesterday was a business expo in a nearby town. I offered to bring Tony along so we could help "spread the word" of the state's best kept secret - our choir.

Tony's job was to stand in front of our booth, smile, say hi, and hand out small items such as business card magnets. He did that all right; and much more, he eagerly engaged in conversation with anyone who looked remotely interested in our organization and even some who didn't.

Another family was with us; there was an international choir boy and his friend, a fellow choirboy there as well. They ended up in the far corners while Tony wandered from one side to the other greeting the passersby. I mentioned to G and to E that they don't have to stay there, they could step out and talk, too, if they wanted. But it appeared they were content to let Tony chatter away.

While the gift of gab is a good thing in some situations, it is entirely annoying in others; such as when Tony spends five minutes telling me what he is going to do in school rather than just going to do it. Or, I ask him to clean up his room but he keeps right on chattering away to Alex or Daddy or to someone else.
