It was pretty warm yesterday; really a perfect late summer day. We had low humidity, light breezes, puffy clouds - really beautiful. Today was quite a bit warmer and quite humid. The temperatures reached into the upper 80's.
Late this afternoon, I went outside to see what Tony was playing with outside and discovered an ominous line of clouds quickly moving in from the west. We both went inside and watched the skies quickly turn from blue to gray to black. Fortunately I didn't see any rotation in the clouds.
Angelo arrived home soon after and announced that the storm was moving fast. Soon after we heard the tornado sirens go off.
Tony became quite upset, but we were able to calm him as we made our way downstairs. He was quite eager to pray for G-d's protection.
We stayed downstairs for about 20 minutes while the maple trees whipped around outside. The rain fell in torrents (the news reports are indicating 2-5 inches depending on the area), and the lightning was nearly constant.
G-d answered my little boy's prayer. The most serious damage we endured from the storm were some down maple branches which I've already moved to our branch pile. But there is quite a bit damage just to the north of us.
So, what caused all this activity? Autum is clashing with Summer. Literally. Autum begins mid-afternoon tomorrow. Daytime highs tomorrow and for about the next week will be in the mid-sixties.
Oh, I should mention that there was an 83 mile-per-hour wind gust at the hight of the storm at the nearby community airport. That's fast enough for a category one hurricane.
